Plaid on Plaid on Plaid!

By  |

I absolutely love plaid! Whether it’s a throwback to my wannabe punk rock years going to underground concerts in high school or maybe years of wishing I went to some North Eastern prep school that required plaid skirts and ties.

Either way, my heart has a special weakness for that lovely check.
I used to own only piles of flannel shirts, rocking them with my ripped jeans and oversized berets. I was into a very specific aesthetic. But I’ve been branching out into other ways to wear plaid, especially as the temperature drops and all I want is a giant mug of hot chocolate.

Here are a few of my favorite fall plaid pieces and some great ways to style them!

ASOS Curve Check Camel Coat

I have been dreaming of coats all year long. Camel coats are so iconic, but this black check pattern gives it a very updated twist. This coat would absolutely SLAY over a simple black dress and some thigh high black boots.

UNIQUE21 Plaid Shirt Dress

I love shirt dresses. My favorite way to wear them is paired with tights and booties. Throw a cropped tank or sweater over it to give it a preppy edge. I also love throwing a huge and sparkly necklace filled with rhinestones to bring a fun edge.

ASOS Curve Blue Check Suit

Come on now, we all want to star in Clueless. If you don’t, well, I’m concerned. I’m not a big mini skirt fan (way too clumsy and risk sharing all the goods with the world) but this suit is EVERYTHING. I love the turtleneck under there, but I’d also love to style this with a sexy bralette or use the pieces as separates for multiple outfits.

Torrid Chiffon Plaid Kimono

Blue & Red Plaid Midi Chiffon Kimono

While many parts of the world enjoy a cold fall, in Texas I usually get a few cold days but the most are closer to the 70s. If I want to pretend it’s fall but not sweat until I die, this kimono is perfect! I love a good kimono over a tank top at work, but this would also look SO cute over a white dress for brunch.

eShakti Plaid Crepe Jumpsuit

Y’all KNOW I have some feelings about jumpsuits. I would live in them if I could. This piece works year round; throw a leather jacket and a scarf over it for the fall or rock sandals and a strapless bra for the summer. Jumpsuits are the ultimate layering piece!

Simply Be Paneled Plaid Pencil Skirt

I have been OBSESSED with faux leather all season and this skirt is no exception. Pencil skirts manage to go from office chic to sexy date night in a hot minute. Tuck in a simple shirt and toss on a cardigan for an easy office look that’s low maintence but put together. A crop top and a jacket tossed over your shoulders makes this piece SO sexy.

JCPenney Boutique+ Plaid Shirt

Boutique + Ruffle Sleeve Woven Plaid Blouse - Plus

I love a good red plaid. The mixed prints on this shirt make it really stand out! This would look so cute over a pair of distressed jeans or tucked into a pencil skirt for work.

Eloquii Plaid Shift Dress

Plaid Puff Sleeve Dress

Obviously I adore this dress. I paired mine with a pair of booties for a cute all day look, but this would look amazing with a thick belt and some bold tights!

Torrid Plaid Ruana

Camel Plaid Ruana

I love me some drama, and this wrap is everything. Halfway between a cape and a poncho, this needs to be thrown over EVERYTHING. From a shift dress to keep me warm at work to leggings and a long sleeve tee for casual. I love this thing.

Eloquii Plaid Ascot Bomber

Ascot Plaid Bomber Jacket

I am SO obsessed with bomber jackets. Seriously, I have like ten hanging in my coat closet. This one is a perfect neutral, so dress it down with jeans and sneakers or toss it over a little dress and leggings in a bright color!

Torrid Plaid Leggings

I don’t even need to describe these. Everybody needs leggings. Boom. Done.

Eloquii Plaid High Waisted Pants

Plaid High Waisted Trouser

I love high waisted pants because they are super versatile AND make my tummy look adorable. These would look great with a black turtleneck for a super seventies vibe. I would also throw a cropped sweater over this for a more laid back feel.

Eloquii Plaid Car Coat

Plaid Car Coat

I have been lusting after this coat forEVER. I love car coats because they are meant to be thrown over everything. Whether that’s pajamas when I walk my dog or a little black dress when I’m downtown, this coat is perfection.
