Where You’ve Been vs. Where You’re Going
Sometimes I feel like there’s so much for me to do and I’m moving forward at a snail’s pace.
I think of all the places I want to go, goals I want to crush, and dreams I haven’t stopped dreaming about. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in everything I haven’t done, that I feel disappointed in myself. Like I’m a failure at life.
But that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
If I actually stop and think of everything I’ve accomplished- and not just the big things, but the small ones too- I have done SO much more than I ever would have dreamed of. If I showed my 23-year-old self these photos and said, “So you’ll be in Miami for a job that lets you write all day, traveling with an incredible partner beyond your wildest rom com dreams, modeling for photos for your body positive Instagram with thousands of followers…” I would have laughed in disbelief.
The only way you can truly enjoy where you’re going is to stop and appreciate where you’ve been. Look back at the things you’ve overcome. Revel in the obstacles you’ve surpassed. Find joy in the lessons you’ve learned in ways you never would have expected.
I know that I have so many more things to do and so many adventures just waiting for me. There will also be heaps of obstacles. But when I look and see how strong I’ve been and just how far I’ve come already, I know that I’ll be able to keep moving forward.
What’s on your horizon?
